Alienware M15x: Mean Machine for Gamers

Dell’s decision to acquired Alienware in 2006 presumably based on their desire that although the gaming segment reaching slightly but remains a potential market. Not that Dell did not prepare a notebook for gaming segment. It’s just big producers are obviously smart. Alienware is a well-known brand that has been built its reputation with high-end products for gamers. In order to see the gaming market continues to grow, Dell would not half-hearted splash in this market. And goes Alienware as a special line of their gaming, and several series began formally entered into the market just like these M15x series.

Seeing her physical form, Alienware M15x is confident to be mentioned as a desktop replacement (replacement PC) because of its size that is big enough and weighs no less than 4 kg. These dimensions are enlarged due to buried none other than the various components of “steady” for gaming (such as wide-screen 15.6″ with LED lighting system). This notebook also carry the latest mobile processor four-core Intel Core i7-720QM, which is attached to a capacity of 4 GB of DDR3 memory (Dual Channel) and 500 GB hard drive. No doubt this notebook’s power equivalent desktop PC for the upper class and for who are ready for heavy computing.

But what makes M15x looked more powerful is the use of graphics chip GeForce GTX 260M with 1GB DDR3 memory. This chip is a graphics processor for the middle class that satisfy today’s game, at least 260 GTX performance better than the GeForce 9600 or Radeon 5850. Some M15x variants also offered in VGA SLI mode for graphics though more toothed. But as long as we try, GTX 260M single mode alone is very sufficient for any activity as well.

As a gaming notebook, Alienware M15x with an atmosphere thicker muscular and fierce. This is clearly visible from the material that was stiff but strong in every part. The layout of the frontal speakers and a wide armrest makes gaming activities become more attractive. Unfortunately the composition of the keyboard keys, although substantial, did not have enough gap so that its use so feel a bit cramped. However, M15x still attractive with a very adequate completeness of features, this product is equivalent to a desktop PC.

Despite offering a strong gaming concept but Alienware M15x is not for everyone. Its bulky and heavy weights are not necessarily appropriate for your mobile activities. Moreover, the batteries run out too quickly due to high specification. However, if used as a desktop replacement devices, M15x does not disappointing. Because its performance is as ferocious as its appearance. You did not need a headache to upgrade, considering the composition of its own hardware is already high. Dell’s own party acknowledged that the gaming market is limited, because that’s an expensive notebook is not imported in large quantities like other notebooks.

Radeon HD5800 and HD5700 Showdown: Part 2

We have revealed the specification and the technology behind the HD5800 and HD5700. We are now moving to the most important part, its performance!

Performance

As the latest generation graphics card in the upper classes, the Radeon 5870 and 5850 provide excellent performance. With bright GDDR5 memory with 256-bit memory interface, the second graphics card is very convenient to run DirectX 10-based games, even still show a decent performance while running at high resolutions. And for mainstream classes, the Radeon 5770 and 5750 is sufficient for most users. Its performance is also not inferior to the series 5800. Unfortunately the use of 128-bit interface to make its performance a bit stuck. However for use at standard resolution, the Radeon 5770 and 5750 was more than enough.

Test Results

We’ve done a test on the fourth series Radeon graphics card 5 using some software testing. Here are the results obtained by the achievement of every graphics card on each test. As a comparison, we also include test results from previous ATI graphics card, namely the Radeon HD4870.

Conclusion

The four graphics card is a very attractive offer for those who are looking for a graphics card or who want to upgrade. The prices are also quite reasonable given considering that the price war going on now is more intense than the first. Overall, we recommend four graphics cards as a priority choice. But which one is right for you? We give some performance test results for the fourth graphics card then you can consider according to your needs.

Radeon HD5800 and HD5700 Showdown: Part 1

The presence of series 5 ATI graphics card is a hallmark return to the battlefield. With support for DirectX 11, this product is a tough opponent graphics card from Nvidia.

At the end of 2009, ATI launched its new line of graphics cards as well as launch a new generation called the Radeon Radeon series 5. Unmitigated, within the adjacent direct ATI graphics card launched four series as well as to direct the market to fill the upper and middle classes, each in a series Radeon 5800 and 5700. ATI Radeon series 5 is certainly bringing new and better specs than the previous series. Not only that, some new technologies were also included in this latest series.

Technology

Birth of the ATI Radeon series 5 is certainly accompanied by new technologies to provide more benefits and convenience for the user when use it. From the eye-candy, the main thing that most will find the ATI is its support for DirectX 11. This is to follow the DirectX 11 support Windows operating system promoted 7. It should be noted, ATI Radeon 5800 and 5700 is the first generation of graphics cards that have been fully supports DirectX 11.

Moreover, in these 5 series Radeon, ATI also introduced a multi-monitor new facility called ATI Eyefinity. This facility allows users to configure the monitor as many as a maximum of six units (when the graphics cards using CrossFire configurations or two graphics cards). This is possible because now the ATI graphics card is able to handle three monitors per graphics card. And to make it more flexible, available some configuration mode monitor which can also be arranged according to taste.

Specifications HD 5800 and HD 5700

Currently ATI has launched four series for the line of Radeon graphics card series 5. The fourth series is divided into two classes, namely HD 5800 and HD 5700. The difference is in the specification and the intended class. Radeon HD 5800 is positioned in the upper class, while the HD 5700 was in the middle class. For details more details, we will describe one by one from each series.

ATI Radeon HD 5800

Cypress has a code name, the Radeon HD 5800 series was first introduced to the public in September 2009. On that day, the direct ATI launched two series at once, namely the Radeon HD 5870 and HD 5850. Both series of graphics cards is projected to replace the Radeon HD 4870 and HD 4850.

PowerColor AX5870 1GBD5-MDH

Both series graphics cards are now equipped with high-speed GDDR5 memory and the memory interface width of 256-bits. Both are also equipped with as many as 1600 units of stream processors.

In accordance to the naming, ATI Radeon HD 5870 graphics card is much faster than the HD 5850. Design reference standard graphics card is very long and large. Eutectic forms also a big box of the same size with long length of the card.

Radeon HD 5870 is equipped with a standard speed of 850 MHz, GDDR5 memory with a set at the speed of 4.8 GHz. And being able to work optimally, this graphics card need a big enough power. Therefore, this graphics card has two ports PCI-Express power.

Positioned slightly below it, the Radeon HD 5850 can be likened to replace the Radeon HD 4850, with the improved performance it was enough. Radeon HD 5850 accelerator is equipped with a speed of 725 MHz, slightly lower than the Radeon HD 5870. This graphics card is also equipped with GDDR5 memory which is also slightly lower than the Radeon HD 5870, which amounted to 4 GHz.

ATI Radeon HD 5700

Not until a month ago since Cypress introduced and launched, ATI also launched two series of graphics cards continued to complement its new product line with the code name Juniper. Juniper family made ATI RV830-based graphics accelerator and consisted of two series, the Radeon HD 5770 and Radeon HD 5750. Both graphics cards are placed on the middle class that offers good performance, but the price is still affordable and relatively low power consumption.

Sapphire HD5770

ATI Radeon HD 5770 has 850 MHz speed accelerator, while the Radeon HD 5750 700 MHz speed. Similar to the Radeon HD 5800 is faster, both HD 5700 series is also equipped with GDDR5 memory. Radeon HD 5770 has peaked to 4.8 GHz memory speed, and Radeon HD 5750 have a maximum to 4.6 GHz.

Although both equipped with GDDR5 memory, the Radeon HD 5700 series has only a memory interface of 128-bit only. The interface is only 128-bit is clearly going to affect the overall performance of the graphics card itself. But if you only run it at standard resolution, the performance difference will not be too pronounced. Do not forget that despite the lower power requirements, both the Radeon HD 5700 graphics card this still requires an external power supply from your PSU.

Camera Phone or Pocket Camera?

Some functions of digital compact cameras to shoot point-and-shoot may have been taken over by another device, such as the recent cameraphones which become increasingly sophisticated and able to produce decent pictures. However, there remains a special camera to photograph which has a wider range of features and facilities making it a more complete and capable device to take pictures. Examples of the diversity of features and facilities can be seen in pocket digital camera released by Canon recently; Digital IXUS 200 IS.

As a pocket camera, IXUS 200 IS has a small and compact shape. Interestingly, the IXUS 200 IS comes with a 3-inch size LCD on the back which have touchscreen functionality. In addition, the LCD touchscreen is also large enough to take some of the key functions of this camera. If you look at the back, there are only a few main button like the “Menu”, “Playback”, “Macro”, and flash settings. Navigation and camera settings can be done through a touch on the LCD touchscreen, which apparently is quite practical and fun. You can choose a focus area by touching the field of shooting that appears on the screen when taking a picture. To preview shots, after pressing the button “Play”, you’re quite a bit of wiggle this camera upward to see the next picture, or downward to return to the previous image.

With a resolution of up to 12 MP CCD and processor DIGIC 4 image processor, Canon claims that this device will produce high quality pictures and more responsive than the previous series. IXUS 200 IS can also record HD video (1280 × 720, 30 FPS) and displays the results to a High Definition TV via an HDMI connector provided. This camera is equipped with 4.3-21.5mm lens with a 5x optical zoom, slightly higher than other pocket cameras schoolmates.

Push Mail: Which One to Choose?

With the development of technology, push mail is not “new stuff anymore.” Nowadays almost every mobile phone already has this facility. Some of the OS for the mobile phone producers have included this technology in its products. BlackBerry now represents one of many outstanding bearers of the push mail that captured the hearts of consumers.

In addition to Research In Motion (RIM) with his BlackBerry, several other manufacturers such as Microsoft, Google, and Apple also have this technology. Usually each OS for mobile device manufacturers have a different protocol, although the results are relatively similar. This time gadgetcompare have the opportunity to discuss some of the widely used OS on the cell phone / smartphone currently circulating.

Iphone

When it was first launched, Apple did not include this technology in the Iphone. However, as it grows now on Iphone OS3 integrated Apple Push Notification Service. To use this service, every e-mail service provider should have a different e-mail notification which then connected to the Apple push notification service. Currently some email providers that has been supported by the Iphone is Yahoo, Gmail, and Microsoft Exchange.

Android

Although the OS has not been long in circulation when compared with others, it has software support and has started being marketed. Android supports existing devices from Samsung, Dell, LG, and the list is growing. This OS supports push email based on Microsoft Exchange Server, and this includes the Gmail push. For gmail, not just email support but contacts, calendar, and tasks can also be syncronize.

Windows Mobile

Microsoft began offering real time e-mail messaging since the launch of Windows Mobile 2003, then replaced with a push one on the 2007. With the release of Windows Mobile 2005, Microsoft claims this technology as the Direct Push Technology. Unfortunately, this technology only supports mail providers who become Microsoft’s own products.

Palm / Palm WebOS

Although have not been heard, but the presence of palm currently, there is still demand. Support for push mail for Palm initially use the IMAP idle. Meanwhile, for the Palm itself has supported webOS Gmail push technology and Microsoft Exchange Base Mailing System.

Symbian

Nokia push mail technology developed by Nokia itself, and given the name Nokia Messaging. Support to e-mail system providers such as Google, Yahoo, Hotmail, and others. Meanwhile, Sony Ericsson to use IMAP IDLE or with a built-in ActiveSync Client (developed by Data Viz).

BlackBerry

BlackBerry devices use the user’s mail with a BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) for its push mail system. BES will monitor the arrival of new e-mail and then send an e-mail to the user via the wireless network. BlackBerry became quite popular because it offers instant e-mail. Currently, the development of BlackBerry in part of the world, like Indonesia, has been increasingly rampant, and not just limited to certain circles.

From the five OS for mobile phones the most widely used, clearly there is a competition. From an OS claiming that the push mail is a technology that has been owned for longer time than other OS. Protocol possessed of every OS on the push-mail technology that is owned indeed different. However, in the end have the same goal which is a new e-mail notification to you.

Issues developing at this time is that the push mail owned by the BlackBerry is the best and it drains a lot of energy from the battery. Given that there are innate battery mobile devices often ran out of power. However, if further investigated the power consumption between a mailing system from one to another is not significant. Processor performance of mobile devices on the mailing system is not heavy.

The biggest power consumption of the mailing system is not there, but from the requirement that the Internet connection should always be open. Coupled with the power consumption required by the OS so that it felt once battery endurance is insufficient for their daily needs.

Adjusting to the needs is the best way to determine your choice in the use of this mailing system. Several advantages exist in the push mail system is certainly going to be very helpful in your business.

HTC Touch Pro and Touch Pro2 Compared

HTC has delivered arguably a very fine product when they launched Touch Pro. It is very well built and an awesome smartphone available on the market. When the successor came up on last Summer, you may asked: Do I need an upgrade? Does it worth the price or should I switch to Iphone 3GS instead? Well, here’s our view.

Just like Touch Pro, the Touch Pro2 has a slide keyboard which we enjoyed very much. It’s tilting screen is somewhat an added value which we found not as attractive as its soft keypad. With the keypad, you can bet that you will put away your stylus for good.

Touch Pro2 has bigger body with a very responsive 3.6 inch LCD with 480 x 800 resolution, much bigger than Touch Pro’s 2.8 inch screen. The TouchFLO technology proved to be one of the most sensitive-touch, probably too responsive for some people.

Added to the home screen are new stock page, new calendar and updated weather. We are not as obsessed with stock prices, but this might be a good feature again someday. The handy calendar is still on the Windows Mobile platform. The weather feature is something that will satisfied you all the time.  In all, a more intuitive and slick interface is a welcome change and another feature that has proved HTC’s value.

Built with many features, but it is still a phone which call quality is vitally important. On the original Touch Pro, we had no complaints about the sound quality. If you have been happy  with the original Touch Pro like us, then you will find Touch Pro2 impressive. It has crystal-clear sound quality and voice reception at the core of its design. In fact, it is a palm-size professional conference phone with a loudspeaker and dedicated noise-cancelling microphone that delivers superior quality conference calls.

Another reason to switch to this phone is the advanced conference calling capabilities that are now really made easy by built it into TouchFLO. Selecting several contacts instantly conferences all the parties together with options to individually drop certain parties from the call while it’s in progress. The call instantly changes over to speakerphone when you flip it upside down—and the call quality on speaker is beyond impressive. This makes for an absolutely wonderful conference calling experience —it’s the best we’ve ever used on a mobile phone.

One aspect we can only call a major disappointment is the camera. Not only was there no upgrade—it’s still a 3.2 MP camera—but now there’s no flash. HTC’s Touch Diamond 2 got a camera upgrade, so why not the Touch Pro 2 and how does removing the flash module make any sense?

Considering both aspects on hardware and software, we found that Touch Pro2 was convincingly surpassed its predecessor. We even found this sweet gadget to be a very good contender to the Iphone. If  HTC spent the same amount on marketing as Apple, RIM, or even Samsung, we even think that they would have a lot more followers.

Best Buy is Next Apple Direction to Sell iPad, Other Locales

Most of the rumors said that AT&T retail stores will be one of the stores which would sells iPad. And you know what? It has confirmed yesterday from Tim Cook, Apple’s COO, at Goldman Sachs tech conference, officially Cook mentioned that the iPad will be available in a similar manner to that of the iPhone, it means iPad will be on hand in Apple’s direct sales canal and other retail locales that already sell Apple products.

Apple iPad

Apple iPad

Best Buy is one of the partners which specifically mentioned by Mr. Cook, it fits because Best Buy already is selling the iPhone, means the customers might no regret in satisfaction and services because it has long experience in selling the Apple products (iPhone). Interim he did not go and determine any other venues, it definitely was implied that AT&T retail stores (as well as other companies selling the iPhone) would allowed selling the iPad.

In this conference he mentioned one thing that the number of company which sells the products will expand. We are wondering whether that means the selling will be limited to a very small number of retailers in the first launch, yet swell out to everyone in the future?

iPad launching is about a month on the go, as a user we could expect to see more notifications of this type in the very near future, as more and more details start surfacing about the all-mysterious iPad.
